Prof. Dr-Ing. Paul Kohlenbach is a professor at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin, Germany. His area of expertise is renewable energies, including but not limited to solar thermal process heat, solar cooling, concentrating solar power (CSP), trigeneration, façade integrated solar systems, solar hot water systems, hydrogen technology and fuel cells. He is also the founder and owner of Solem Consulting, an international consortium of leading experts in solar technologies which was founded in 2008. Over thirteen years of professional experience with solar thermal systems, especially in engineering design, planning and control of such make him an internationally renowned solar expert.

Dr. Uli Jakob is the General Manager of Solem Consulting in Europe and an internationally renowned solar cooling expert. His areas of expertise are building physics, renewable energies and climate engineering, with a special focus on innovative energy concepts and energy-efficient buildings. About the Author

William A. Corsaro was the Robert H. Shaffer Class of 1967 Endowed Chair of Sociology and is currently professor emeritus in the Department of Sociology at Indiana University, Bloomington, where he won the President’s Award for Distinguished Teaching in 1988. He teaches courses on the Sociology of Childhood, Childhood in Contemporary Society, and Ethnographic Research Methods. His primary research interests are the Sociology of Childhood, Children’s Peer Cultures, the Sociology of Education, and Ethnographic Research Methods. Corsaro is the author of Friendship and Peer Culture in the Early Years (1985), “We’re Friends, Right”: Inside Kids’ Culture (2003), and I Compagni: Understanding Children's Transition from Preschool to Elementary School (2005, with Luisa Molinari). He was a Fulbright Senior Research Fellow in Bologna, Italy, from 1983-1984 and a Fulbright Senior Specialist Fellow in Trondheim, Norway in 2003. Corsaro was inaugural recipient of the Distinguished Career Award from the American Sociological Association Section on Children and Youth in 2013.

It also gives capitalism a “bad name” as voters see our corporate elite living by a different set of rules than everyone else. Beyond paying CEOs more than they deserve, this encourages corporate behavior that has little economic purpose besides enriching management and its Wall Street enablers. Excessive one-time payoffs encourage CEOs to "swing-for-the-fences,” so that doing mega-deals where they can "take the money and run" trumps doing what's best for the company in the long run. We need to reject the idea that excessive pay for CEOs is just a “normal” part of capitalism in the same way we refuse to accept price fixing, embezzlement and other corrupt activity. Boards of directors should be put on notice that approving such deals is a breach of their fiduciary duty, and they should be held to account through shareholder suits, SEC actions and by the press. This issue concerns everyone – Republican, Democrat, liberal, conservative – who values free enterprise and wants to see it maintained and strengthened.

Steven Bavaria writes about finance, economics and politics, drawing on forty-five years experience in international banking, credit, investment, human resources and journalism. Bavaria began his career at the Bank of Boston, handling a variety of international credit workouts, including a corrupt Greek shipowner, a Vatican-owned bank and troubled branches in Australia and Panama. He later ran the bank's human resources department, his first exposure to the conflicted governance process that he writes about in "Too Greedy for Adam Smith." Later he worked at Standard & Poor's, where he introduced credit ratings to the syndicated loan market. In between he was a reporter for Investment Dealers Digest, Associate Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health and worked briefly for Citibank. He ended his career with a stint at a smaller rating agency where his article "From Banker to Bookmaker" was deemed a bit too candid in describing the conflicted role of major investment banks. Bavaria graduated from Georgetown University and New England School of Law. He and his wife Betsy have four children and three grandchildren. They live in Chestnut Ridge, New York.

Professor Andrew L. He teaches wine analysis, graduate level wine chemistry, and an online introductory wine course, and is Chair of the Viticulture and Enology graduate studies program. Former graduate students and postdocs are academics, industry scientists and winemakers. His research lab has reported key wine oxidation reactions and has developed new methods to analyse wine components including those using LC-MS with isotope filtering, as well as NMR techniques. The research has focused on wine phenolics, oak compounds and oxidation products. In addition his lab has also been addressing the metabolic products of phenolics. He publishes in numerous international journals in the fields of chemistry and agriculture, and serves as a chief editor at the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture. Principles and Practices is another great text but this is a thorough overview of wine composition and production.

Even with a heavy chemistry background, I found this text to challenge my knowledge, and to go further. The level of research-based information is excellent, but there's also practical info for winemakers of a technical bent. I didn't read the book with a goal of learning every fact, but to glean practical practices. A number of long-standing, difficult questions were answered, and I'm sure there's more I can get from this book in the future.

I specifically loved the Kreb's Cycle diagram, how they broke it down into an oxidative and a reductive branch. This really helps create a more clear picture than diagrams found in other Biochem textbooks. The chapters are well organized and easy to follow making the book a great read for anyone with a background in chemistry and/or passion for wine.

Excellent resource to understanding wine at its chemical nature.
